Abens Marty Curran and Humboldt Mutual Warn of Potential Scam

Humboldt, Iowa –  It has been brought to our attention that there may be a high volume of individuals trying to solicit business in our area due to recent storms. To all of our insureds and members of the community who have experienced any damage; please contact your local insurance agency or company to report any damages. Also, do not sign any forms without contacting your insurance company first.

The storm chaser law states: Any violation of the law constitutes “Consumer Fraud” and could result in civil penalty.

Any non-local contractor(s) attempting to; negotiate a roof damage claim on behalf of the consumer, failing to provide a fully completed contract or enforcing an estimate as a binding contract, failing to honor the consumers right to cancel, and threatening to file a debt collection lawsuit could be in violation of this law.
