Humboldt, Iowa – The Humboldt Boys and Girls Track Teams are in full-scale preparation for their first meet of the 2017 season Friday in Storm Lake at the Buena Vista University 2017 Elite Indoor Meet.
Field events Friday will begin at 3:30 p.m. with running events beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Coach Dean Clasen is back for yet another season as the head-skipper for girls track citing his excitement for the upcoming season via teleconference, but the weather has posted it’s usual amount of challenges.
“Right now, we are just trying to get some semblance of conditioning, so [tomorrow] we will be able to compete, and get some times which will act as a starting point” Clasen explained.
AAU Volleyball has brought forward some scheduling conflicts for Clasen’s bunch but he expects those to dwindle down the further the team plunges into the spring season.
Unfortunately, Clasen won’t be able to get all the girls into the meet, as it’s currently jam-packed as-is. Running events are set to end nearly seven hours after the initial race.
But, Clasen did indicate that the teams will be able to run multiple relay units, something he uses to find success in the early season.
“We have the opportunity to run three different 4×200 and 4×400 [teams], those two events alone give us the opportunity to involve twelve girls.”
Both the boys and girls will try to incorporate as many different athletes and combiniations of athletes as they can, as the indoor season provides a solid litmus test to where the groups stand.
Clasen mentioned he will try to get every athlete in at least two events.
“It’s a long meet, a lot of teams, we want to make the trip worthwhile for them.”
