Fireworks Now Legal For Purchase in Iowa

Humboldt, Iowa –  Iowa Governor Terry Branstad announced Tuesday that the sale and purchase of consumer-grade fireworks in now legal in the State of Iowa.

The bill can still be altered on a local level, however.

Branstad said the bill has two provisions in it that make the sale of fireworks legal for Iowans in two separate windows – one in June, spanning into July, while the other is in December spanning into the new year.

The new law sates that fireworks can legally be set off between the times of 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.

With Branstad signing this into law Tuesday, it ended a nearly eighty year ban on fireworks across the state. Iowans now will no longer have to travel across state lines to purchase fireworks that otherwise are illegal in their home state.
