Humboldt Cross Country Dominates Home Meet, Sweeps Titles

Humboldt, Iowa — The Humboldt Boys and Girls Cross Country teams protected their home course with a dominating, sweep effort yesterday at a soggy Joe Sheldon Park.

Joseph Kunert ran 17:35 good for a second place finish, Monday night. Freshman Quinton Orr continued his strong debut campaign with a 5th place finish with a time of 17:57.

Denny Pederson and Devon Coon each had very strong performances, finishing 9th and 11th respectively. Pederson ran 18:40, while Coon ran 18:43.

The Wildcat boys held off a very talented Clear Lake team, who finished in second place with a score of 59. Kuemper Catholic finished third with a score of 130.

Another meet, another first place finish for sophomore Bryce Gidel. Gidel ran 19:46 to take the individual championship in the girls division.

Gabby Kent took 4th, while Lauren Erickson finished in 5th place. Elizabeth Hildreth finished in the top-10 as well, with a time of 21:47.

The girl’s first place finish was nearly uncontested, with a near 100 point differential between them and second-place Algona.
