Humboldt, Iowa — A boy was arrested Wednesday after making threats towards the Algona School District via social media, the Algona Police Department says.

An unidentified 16-year old boy has been charged with Threat of Terrorism, a Class D Felony, for creating the threat on a social media post Tuesday, Algona Police Chief Kendall Pals said.

Pals believes the threat was directed to Algona High School specifically for Wednesday.

A community member in Algona brought the post to the attention of School District officials who made the decision then to cancel classes for Wednesday.

According to Pals, the youth is currently being held for further Juvenile Court proceedings.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, Eagle Grove and Belmond-Klemme School Districts also closed down yesterday due to threats, however there has been no threats of any kind in the Humboldt School system.
