Ryan Gosling and Jimmy Kimmel share Las Vegas memories on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

ABC Image Group LA(LOS ANGELES) — Blade Runner 2049 star Ryan Gosling joined Jimmy Kimmel Tuesday night to promote his new film, but from the moment he sat down, he admitted that in the aftermath of so much tragedy, it was difficult to talk about the movie.

Ryan told Jimmy he admired his monologue Monday night, saying, “I really appreciate what you said the other night about wanting to come out and tell jokes and be light, but it is getting harder and harder to do that.”

He added, “You think about all the, so many people suffering right now and all the victims of all these hurricanes and obviously this shooting and the earthquakes and… It’s strange to be out talking about a film.”

So, the two talked about Las Vegas and Ryan asked Jimmy about his home town, saying, “It’s an interesting place to be from.”

Jimmy replied, “I never realized it was an interesting place to be from until I moved away from there and people said, ‘Wow, what an interesting place to be from.’” Jimmy said that growing up there, for him was just a normal childhood, with some exceptions. He added, “Instead of 9:00 to 5:00, your mom or dad might work midnight to 8:00 a.m.”

Jimmy talked about seeing iconic Las Vegas figures like Liberace and Sammy Davis, Jr. and shared the story about how he first met his childhood friend and bandleader, Cleto Escobedo III.

Then Ryan shared a story about his first time staying in Las Vegas, at the Golden Nugget and seeing Don Rickles with his friend.

As the segment closed, Ryan seemed ready to talk about the Blade Runner sequel, which they did after the break.

Blade Runner 2049 opens Friday nationwide.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on ABC
