Craven, Busse Lead Cats to Joe Fitch Invite Victory

Humboldt, Iowa — Cresten Craven and Joey Busse were individual champions as the Chad Beaman led Humboldt Wildcat wrestling team captured the 5th Annual Joe Fitch Invitational last Friday at home.

Busse breezed past his competition in the 152-pound class. Busse pinned Brier Uhlenhopp of Aplington-Parkersburg, Gavin Leng of S-SO and earned a tech fall in a dominant victory over Chandler Witzke of Pocahontas Area.

In his 1st place match, Busse defeated Mason Griffin of Emmetburg via fall in 4:56. Busse is ranked #8 in the 152 pound weight-class in the preseason Iowa Wrestle poll.

Craven advanced to the to first place match after defeating Kaleb Umbaugh of Forest City, as well as Steele McLaren of Atlantic, both via fall.

Craven then defeated Emmetsburg’s Christian Nichols 6-4 via decision in the first place match.

Justin Jones was a runner-up after being defeated in the first place match 3-0 via decision to John McConkey of Atlantic.

Humboldt placed first with 244.5 points, followed by Emmetsburg with 235 and Sheldon South O’Brien with 225.5.

The Cats are back in action with a quadrangular tomorrow evening at East Sac County, the meet will begin at 6:00 p.m.
