Basketball Returns to Face Rival St. Ed’s at Home

Humboldt, Iowa — The Humboldt Wildcat girl’s and boy’s basketball teams will be back in action this evening at home as they battle their rival to the south in Fort Dodge St. Edmond.

The Wildcat girls are coming their first victory of the 2017-18 season, defeating Webster City 34-31. Freshman Jori Hajek led the Cats with 10 points, while also drilling a three.

In that contest, Humboldt held Webster City’s leading scorer Taylor McKinney to 5-of-18 shooting and 2-for-9 from three.

Humboldt kept the Lynx to 10 first-half points.

The boys suffered a late, fourth quarter loss as the Lynx went to a 19-8 run in the final quarter to capture a 53-43 win over Humboldt.

Jamison Heinz had 12 points in the loss. Austin Brant, lifted the bench with 9 points, making three first half triples.

In last year’s series, the boys lost twice to the Gaels (84-73, 72-51), the Cats have lost four straight in the series. The girls swept their series last year (56-27, 41-28), the Wildcat girls have won the last four in the series.

Tip-off is slated for 6:15, with the boys tipping at 7:45. Both games can be heard on 97.7 The Bolt.
