Humboldt, Iowa — Following a sweep at the hands of the Clear Lake Lions, the Humboldt Wildcat girls and boys basketball team will play host to the Hampton-Dumont Bulldogs at Humboldt High School tonight.

The Lady Wildcats fell 62-33 to the #3 ranked Lions as they have started their season 1-6, with their lone win coming against Webster City on December 8th, 34-31. Sydney Lane and Jori Hajek had 10 and 8 points respectively in the loss.

It has been a changing of the guard — literally and figuratively — for the Wildcats this season, sans the services of All-NCC performer Avery Terwilliger.

Humboldt is still searching for improved guard-play and Rodd Mooney is instituting a team-game in regards to ball-handling.

Not one Wildcat averages over double figures in scoring, with Lane leading the way with 9 points per game. Sophomore Mady Lange is second with 6.6.

The boys dropped their fourth contest in a row, Friday, after Clear Lake’s scintillating combo guard Zach Lester poured in 37 points.

The Humboldt boys have not won since November 28th, their second game of the year, over Manson NW Webster, 50-48.

During that stretch, however, sophomore Jamison Heinz has really taken off. Heinz scored 13 points Friday, and is the team’s leading scorer at 13.7 points per game.

The contests tonight begin with the girls at 6:15 with the boys to follow at 7:45.
