Girls Spoil Halftime Lead, Fall to Webster City
Webster City, Iowa – Humboldt held leads at the end of the first and second quarters, only to see the Lynx go on a 17-7 run in the 3rd quarter to defeat the Wildcats 48-45 Thursday evening.
Yesterday was Humboldt’s second loss in three games this week.
Abby Zaugg gave the Wildcats some momentum into the second quarter, drilling a forty-foot three point heave at the sound of the buzzer.
Zaugg led Humboldt with 15 points.
Humboldt was once again snake bit by a team forcing them to settle for jumpers with a 2-3 zone. The Wildcats have been zoned more and more frequently over the second half of their season.
The Wildcats had chances at the end to tie and take the lead, but Webster City’s defense proved too strong yesterday evening.
The loss puts Humboldt at 12-7 and 9-3 in the NCC. They battle C-G-D tonight at 6:15 p.m.
Boys Go Toe to Toe With Leaders, Squander Late Lead in Loss
Webster City, Iowa – With 1:00 to go in the fourth quarter Jason Hoag’s team had a 34-32 lead. Minutes later the scoreboard showed a 39-34 Webster City win.
The Lynx closed the game on a 7-0 run to win and drop Humboldt to 7-9 and 4-7 in the North Central Conference.
Devon Clark and Jamison Heinz combined for three rattle outs on the offensive end down the stretch and in retrospect, if any one of those shots went down, the outcome could have changed entirely.
Instead, Lynx leading scorer Connor Shannon, who was quieted for most of the game, hit an and-one layup which was followed up by a Cameron Moen three-ball to ice the game for the Lynx.
Sophomore Forward Owen Terwilliger led the way for the Cats with 12 points. Calvin Carlson had 7, while Devon Clark chipped in with 6.
Humboldt is back in action again tonight versus C-G-D at 7:45 in Clarion.
