Girls Drop to North Polk; End Season At 16-7

Humboldt, Iowa –   Things were looking up for the Humboldt Girls Basketball team at the half of their Class 3A Region 4 semifinal yesterday.

Unfortunately, sixteen “game” minutes later the Wildcats were looking at a four-point defeat the hands of the North Polk Comets.

North Polk used a 23-13 second half run to take control of the game to advance to Saturday’s Class 3A Region 4 Final which will be played at Clarion.

The Comets defense ratcheted up a notch in the second half, limiting Humboldt’s explosive post game, their jumpers weren’t falling either.

Halie George hit a late three to cut the deficit to four at 35-31, unfortunately that was the all the closer the Cats would get in the contest.

Southern Illinois volleyball recruit Hannah Becker led the offensive and defensive attack for the Comets collecting ten points and gobbling up ten rebounds.

Becker’s points were extremely hard-earned; Humboldt Junior forward Sydney Lane did yeoman’s work in the post defensively.

Abby Zaugg finished with ten points as did Avery Terwilliger, Humboldt finishes their 2016-17 season with a 16-7 record, their most wins in school history since switching to “5-man” basketball.

North Polk will play Clear Lake in the region final Saturday at Clarion, that game will tip off at 7:00.
