Wrestling Falls in Regional Team Duals

Atlantic, Iowa – The Humboldt Varsity wrestling team finished up their 2016-17 dual season at 23-9 after going 1-1 in yesterday evening’s regional team duals in Atlantic.

The Cats got off to a solid start after defeating the Red Oak Tigers 34-30. The victory gave Humboldt the opportunity to square off with state powerhouse Atlantic for the right to move on team state duals in Des Moines.

Early on, the Cats battled the high-powered Atlantic wrestlers toe-to-toe and had it within four points at 20-16, however that was all the closest Humboldt would get again.

Humboldt Junior Justin Jones forced a pin at 285 to cut the lead to 32-25 only to see Atlantic take the final two bouts to clinch their team spot in Des Moines.

The Wildcats are sending seven wrestlers to districts in Webster City this weekend, bout-to-bout coverage can be heard right here on 97.7 beginning at noon Saturday.

Keel Zinnel and Steve Reimers will have the call.
