Humboldt, Iowa – The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors awarded three drainage project contracts at their Monday morning meeting.
The Board approved a contract for B&B Drainage for work in Drainage District #4. The total amount of the contract was $97,465.96.
Drainage District #3 was awarded to Jerke Engineering of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Humboldt County Drainage Engineer Rick Hopper deemed the company fruitful after hearing some of “best reviews” he has ever heard regarding out-of-market engineering firms.
Other counties have worked with Jerke, Hopper said. There has no been problems.
“They don’t overdig, there’s never been complaints. Simply, they are just really good to work with” Hopper said.
Jerke presented the low bid on DD #3 by more than $4,000. Jerke has agreed to come to Humboldt for a pre-construction meeting with the Board, as well.
DD #6 Main Tile and Branch B was subject to an open hearing with land-owner input, Monday too.
The main question is whether the land-owners wanted to proceed further with the 1′ coefficient or 1/2′ coefficient. Hopper explained that for just 35% of the cost, the 1′ drainage coefficient would present double the drainage for farm wetlands.
After deliberation, the Board successfully approved to move forward with the 1′ coefficient-awarding the contract to Nels Pederson.
The completion date for the project is set for this Fall.
