Humboldt, Iowa – The Humboldt Community School District approved the 2018 School Budget at their meeting this week.
The board lowered the tax rate for 2018 .50 cents lower than last. The adjusted rate for 2018 shows the tax rate levy at $13.27 per $1,000 of taxable valuation. Last year’s rate was $13.77.
“Well it’s good because it’s less, but it’s bad because we only are getting 1% allowable growth” Superintendent Greg Darling said.
“We only got one percent of new money this year, we weren’t able to tax for that, which equated out to the lower rate” he explained.
Darling made sure that district-wide, people understand that despite it being perhaps, a little tighter, Humboldt will not be cutting back on it’s programs.
“We are still able to offer all of our programs. Now, we will have to cinch our belts on some items but we may dig into the reserve fund some, but we can’t rely on that” Darling stated.
