Webster City, Iowa — The Humboldt Wildcats baseball team (10-4) will get one of their toughest match-ups of the year tonight, when they travel to battle the Webster City Lynx this evening.
Webster is one of the bigger surprises in the area, one year removed from a 7-17 campaign, the Lynx are currently atop the NCC standings at 9-2.
The Wildcats will be lucky to avoid facing the devastating left-hander Max Hackbarth, who pitched a complete game shutout Monday night versus Fort Dodge Saint Edmond.
Hackbarth, who was roughed up for seven runs in three innings in an appearance versus Humboldt last year, has totally dominated opponents so far this season.
The junior is 4-0 with an 0.27 ERA in 26 innings this season.
Humboldt swept the season series last year, outscoring the Lynx by 14 in doing so.
After a slow start, senior Devon Clark has righted the ship offensively slashing .362/.464./.532 with an OPS of .996, trailing only Owen Newton.
Clark is likely to be tonight’s starter and the righty has done a great job acting as the de facto ace this season. Clark is 3-0 in 18 IP with a 1.56 ERA.
Tonight’s game begins at 7:30 p.m.
