Humboldt, Iowa — The Humboldt City Council tabled their discussion regarding a fireworks permit for the upcoming Cy-Hawk Rivalry Day event in Humboldt.
The permit asked to close the Sumner Avenue bridge for approximately one half-hour for a firework display that evening.
There would be a pre-loaded semi trailer of fireworks that would help aid the display.
Sheriff Dean Kruger was a tad wary of the idea, saying that there are “a lot of houses in that area” which could pose some “uncertainty.”
The firework show would begin at 9:30 p.m. that evening.
Fire Chief Jim Gronbach said he didn’t have a problem with the display, barring the semi is loaded onto the west side of the bridge — furthest away from residential areas.
Gronbach explained that the display will consist of two-inch shells which are smaller than the shells the fire department uses for the Fourth of July celebration.
