Humboldt Girls, Boys Start Strong in Cross Country

Hampton, Iowa  — Both the boys and girls Humboldt Cross Country teams got off to solid starts at Thursday evening’s 2017 regular season opener at Mayne’s Grove in Hampton.

The Humboldt Girls, fresh off a North Central Conference title of their own, picked up a meet championship, spearheaded by the talented sophomore Bryce Gidel.

All told, the girls placed five Wildcats in the top-10, and six in the top-15.

The Humboldt boys — too conference champions from a year ago — finished second only to Clear Lake. Joseph Kunert, who looks poised for a breakout season, finished in second place.

They dominated the top-6 placing three Wildcats in that top sextet.

Both teams are off from competition until next week, when they will travel to Webster City. Meet time is set for 5:00 p.m.
