Humboldt, Iowa — With the cold weather hitting Iowa many citizens are excited to hit up the lakes for some good ice fishing. The DNR want people to know that with the ice fishing season upon us to still be careful.

No lake or pond is 100% safe when it comes to ice fishing. Some parts of the ice will be thinner and weaker because or currents you may not notice.  You want at least 4-6 inches of ice in order for it to be safer when you go out fishing.

The DNR advises to keep rope on hand in case there were to be an accident on the ice and to call 911 immediately. Time is a major factor when it comes to falling through the ice.
