Supervisors Award Plastic Pipe Project for DD #11, Sub 5

Humboldt, Iowa — For the first time, the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors have awarded a plastic pipe project for one of the many drainage districts in the county.

The original discussion was whether or not the supervisors would entertain the half or full-inch drainage coefficient. There were members of both sides present at the meeting on Monday.

Supervisor chair Bruce Reimers says many have said they prefer the full inch over the half inch if you are spending the money.  Lee concurred, saying the majority of the landowners in this district realize the full inch is a bit more reasonable.

The Supervisors hope this project is a 150 year project.

What makes this project unique is that the supervisors have elected to go with a plastic pipe structure, which will be the first of it’s kind in the county.

The pipe will be lined in crushed stone for added protection.

The project was awarded to Luft and Sons of Rolfe, in the amount of $904,856.

Minnesota and MIssouri both use a lot of plastic pipe, we shouldn’t have too many concerns. It’s a good opportunity for us” supervisor Rick Pedersen said.

There was no timetable given on the project on Monday.
