Humboldt, Iowa — Taft Elementary School took precautionary measures following a bizarre online threat — that was actually a mix-up, law enforcement officials detail.

The incident occurred Monday when a Webster County Sheriff uncovered a Snapchat post that made threats towards Taft School.

What he didn’t realize, was that the Taft School referenced was actually one from Cedar Rapids.

Even indirectly, we kind of knew it wasn’t our school area but we didn’t want to take any chances” Humboldt schools superintendent Greg Darling said.

Taft School in Humboldt never went into full lockdown, but those in the district were vigilant regarding the post.

Communication is key, even though it was a school in eastern Iowa, our law enforcement was in talks with their law enforcement, it didn’t take long to get things reeled in” Darling explained.

But he said, no matter what “student safety is the number one goal, under any circumstances.”
