Gidel Soars to 9th Place Finish

Humboldt, Iowa — The list of accomplishments keeps growing for Humboldt junior Bryce Gidel.

Following up a disappointing race as a freshman, the talented Gidel has now medaled in back-to-back state cross country championships, placing 9th in Saturday’s race.

Glenwood’s Janette Schraft placed number one, defeating all-everything Center Point-Urbana runner Adrianna Katcher.

Gidel ran 19:21.1 for the 9th place finish.

Of course, her own biggest critic, Gidel will not be as satisfied as she should be with the finish on Saturday.

However, she remains undefeated in regular season races over her first three seasons, she’s also a three-time state qualifier, and two-time medalist.

Some, no most, high school athletes dream of those sort of accolades.

Not to mention, following the dissapointment of her race as a freshman, it would be easy to let that sink you.

But not Bryce.

She’s now come back twice to Lakeside since then and medaled. The resilency is real, the fight is there and you can bet your piggy bank she’ll be back there again next year.

Gabby Moran of Dubuque Wahlert rounded out the top-3.
