Humboldt, Iowa — In a great early season test, Humboldt senior Joey Busse responded well. One night after opening up at Estherville Lincoln Central, Busse and the rest of the Wildcat wrestling team showed up in a big way, earning a second place finish at the Joe Fitch Invite, Friday night.

Bob Fitch, Joe’s oldest son, was in attendance for the invite.

Busse himself became a four-time individual champion Friday night, earning the top spot in the 150lb. weight class. Busse cruised to the first place finish as he has begun his senior year the right way.

In a clash of top-10 ranked wrestlers in 106, it was Pocahontas Area’s Jacob Mielke earning the top spot defeating Humboldt’s Cole Nelson, it what could have been a preview of a district or sectionals match.

Emmetsburg placed first as a team, scoring 281 points. Humboldt finished second with 256.5, Atlantic third with 256.
