Humboldt, Iowa — Jeff Haselhuhn, Paul Davis and Jeff Halverson, all representing the Humboldt County Fair were on hand at Monday’s Humboldt County Board of Supervisors meeting to discuss their budget request for fiscal year 2019-2020.

The fair board is hopeful for similar allotment to last year, in the amount of $25,000.

The 16-member board has one new face, Cody Ricklefs who is replacing Jeff Goodell.

Haselhuhn told the board that the new show ring turned out “very nicely” and the ring is completely paid for already.

The fair board is looking to add to new transformers to the fair grounds, possibly a third, as well.

When asked, Haselhuhn said that attendance for the Humboldt County Fair is going up, as well as participation.

Conversely, a lot of county fairs are going down.

The attendance surge could largely be pointed towards an active fair board that Haselhuhn said is “all on the right track.”

County Supervisor board-member Rick Pedersen said that the budget allotment to the fair boar is “money well spent” and that they are “doing a great job.”

Supervisor Bruce Reimers also commended the fair board and thanked them for allowing the food pantry to use the grounds for the mobile food pantry events that come to Humboldt County.

The county board will take the fair board’s request under advisement while they are preparing for the county budget.

No official board action was taken at this time.
