Story City, Iowa — The #11 (3A) Roland-Story Norsemen girls’ basketball team pulled away in the third quarter to help vault them over the Humboldt Wildcats in Saturday’s first round playoff game.

The Wildcats (4-17) kept it close for one quarter, trailing only 9-8 after one quarter. But two late second quarter threes by Kyle Tjernagel gave the Norsemen a 10-point lead at recess.

A 13-8 run in the third quarter allowed the Roland-Story to pull away, despite Humboldt’s best efforts in the final quarter, a quarter in which they actually outscored the Norsemen 16-14.

Mady Lange led the way for Humboldt with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Kendal Clark chipped in with a double-double herself with 10 points and 10 boards.

Jori Hajek added 9 points.

Roland-Story will play Carroll, Wednesday in Story City.

The top-half of the bracket will see Clear Lake battle Kuemper Catholic in Humboldt, Wednesday, as well.
