Humboldt, Iowa — A Humboldt County man was sentenced this week for an April 2018 incident in Humboldt.

Authorities say 35-year-old Nicholas Joseph Bradley of Humboldt and Vilma Cyreena Velasquez, 26 of Fort Dodge were accused of trying to murder Austin Dean. According to law enforcement officials, Dean was riding his bicycle in Humboldt when Bradley allegedly attempted running him over with his truck.

Velasquez then allegedly ran after Dean with a baseball bat.

In October, Velasquez was sentenced to one year of probation.

This week, Bradley entered a guilty plea to willful injury and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon.

He was sentenced to five years in prison, with credit for time served.
