Fog, Snow Drift Play Culprit in Wednesday Accident

Humboldt, Iowa — The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office says one was uninjured in a Wednesday morning accident.

Chief Deputy Brian Ricklefs says 75-year old John Mhyr, of Chaska, Minnesota was the lone person involved in the accident.

Mhyr was eastbound in a construction zone on Highway 3.

According to the report a barricade indicating the construction zone information was hidden from the snowfall and heavy fog in the morning.

Due to the fog, the report stats Mhyr was unable to see the barricade or flashers attached to it. Mhyr’s vehicle wound up striking the barricade.

Mhyr was able to maintain control of the vehicle and pulled off onto States Avenue to await law enforcement.

The estimated damage to the barricade was valued at $200.
