Dakota City, Iowa — The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors officially made March Problem Gambling Month in Humboldt County, yesterday.
The presentation was headed by Katie Talbot of Community and Family Resources in Fort Dodge.
Talbot explained to the supervisors that over the last year year, CFR has dealt with a “a couple” people with problem gambling traits from Humboldt County.
She says the problem is much bigger in Webster County.
“Eighty percent of problem gamblers have contemplated suicide by the time they ask for help. Twenty percent have actually attempted it” Talbot said.
The area trends show that women aged 35-50 have the most trouble right now, affixing their addiction to scratch-off lottery tickets.
The supervisors passed the proclamation unanimously.
