Nevada, Iowa — The Humboldt Wildcat boys’ soccer team fell last night on the road in the opener of the Class 3A soccer playoffs 2-1 to the Clear Lake Lions.
The lone Humboldt scoring tally came from junior Alex Gonzalez to open up the second half. The goal was Gonzalez’s twelfth this season, leading the squad.
Later that half, the Wildcats conceded a goal from a Clear Lake set piece, giving the Lions a 2-1 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
“We had plenty of chances to score there late” said head coach Joe Hadar.
“We just couldn’t find the back of the net” he explained.
Humboldt closes their season 5-9 but will return lots of talent to next year’s team including the aforementioned Gonzalez and their starting goalkeeper Joel Osborn.
A banquet date for the team is unknown as of this time.
