Humboldt, Iowa — The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors have begun the early stages of identifying a long term replacement for former county engineer Paul Jacobson.

Back in November, the board ruled 4-1 on a roll call vote to not renew the contract of the mercurial Jacobson, who had served as the county’s engineer since 2000.

Jacobson submitted his termination papers on December 1st.

Since that time, his former assistant Ben Loots has been acting as the interim county engineer and has explained several times he would be interested in the long-term position.

The supervisors have already held two interviews in the last two weeks — one those of were spent with Loots, who’s contract runs until the end of June.

Supervisor Chairman Bruce Reimers and Rick Pedersen have been tasked by the board to act as the committee to make personnel recommendations.

The hiring timetable is unclear, as of this point.
