Humboldt, Iowa — The Humboldt City Council made a big leap to help out the Humota Theater at their meeting on Monday.

The council unanimously approved a $10,000 donation to the Humota Theater as they continue to keep their doors open amidst uncertainty regarding their future.

Despite the donation, the city council reiterated Monday that this is not a “city project.”

City Administrator Travis Goedken discussed with the council that Humota has been somewhat successful in raising funds, but there wasn’t a total dollar figure given.

The city will deploy the donation from the hotel/motel tax, which city code states must have at least 50% of which invested into tourist activities.

Councilman Jim Vermeer discussed the possibility of adding more to the donation, but the council said they could revisit the situation in the upcoming time.

There are steps being made to insure the theater can operate as a 501c3, as well.
