Humboldt, Iowa — The Humboldt City Council announced the hiring of Susan Rutz as the first school resource officer at their meeting on Monday.
The hire was announced by city administrator Travis Goedken.
Rutz, a long-time city employee working as the Recreation Director in her past, will make $40,000 in her capacity as the SRO.
In prior meetings when discussing the position, Goedken and the council said that Rutz’s main objectives as the SRO will be preventative measures as well as creating positive bonds with the students.
Essentially, the officer will act as a liaison between the police department and the school district, working at the high school during the day.
The city and school district, both sharing her services, will split the $40,000 starting salary.
The council unanimously approved the hire on Monday.
