KHBT — The Iowa Hawkeye men’s basketball team fell just short of a historic comeback and upset, falling yesterday to the Tennessee Volunteers, 83-77.
The Hawks trailed by more than twenty points in the first half, before reeling off a 43-22 second half run.
Jordan Bohannon led the Hawkeyes with 18 points, on 3-7 from three-point land. Isiah Moss chipped in with 16 points, drilling three 3’s in the game as well.
Here are some other nuggets from the contest yesterday, per the Iowa Athletic Office:
· Today was the first overtime game of the 2019 NCAA Tournament and was Iowa’s fifth overtime game in the NCAA Tournament.
· The last two Iowa-Tennessee games played in the NCAA Tournament have gone to overtime (2014 First Four, 2019 Round of 32).
· Iowa trailed by as many as 25 points in the first half and came all the way back to tie the contest and send the game into overtime.
· All five Iowa starters (Bohannon, Moss, Garza, Cook, Wieskamp) scored in double figures today.
· Jordan Bohannon made three 3-pointers today to surpass Jeff Horner (2003-06) to become Iowa’s all-time leader in 3-point field goals made as a junior.
· Iowa finished this season with 23 victories, its second highest total in 13 seasons and most victories under Fran McCaffery for an NCAA Tournament team.
· Iowa finished the season with five victories over nationally-ranked opponents, matching its highest total in 13 seasons (2015-16 season).
