Humboldt, Iowa — Humboldt County roads have been driving some residents crazy.
The condition of county gravel roads were discussed at last week’s Humboldt County Board of Supervisors Meeting. Ben Loots, Humboldt County Engineer, says there is only about one day left of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) work left.
“We are cleaning up ditches and hauling rock to Murray and Bormann Bridges.”
Loots says his crews will be doing spot rock hauling and cleaning of frost boils. He says the trouble is the water table is still high on many rural roads and they could end up doing more damage when they try and haul under those conditions.
The board of supervisors did approve a progress payment to Manatt’s Inc. of Brooklyn to pave County Roads P-66 and P-33 between Rutland and Bode.
Loots says roughly 1.5 miles of the road has been repaved as of Thursday. He’s hoping to have roadwork completed mid-to-late May, depending on the weather.
