State Officials: Slow Down for Farm Equipment

Spring planting season is finally underway; with that in mind, state public safety officials are encouraging Iowans to check their speed as they approach over-sized farm equipment.

Iowa State Patrol Sergeant Nate Ludwig says traditional cards and trucks are “no match for agricultural machinery,” which often weights several tons. Ludwig says when cars think they can pass a tractor, there are times that they can end up hitting a car in the opposite direction.

Even if a farmer waves you around, Ludwig says it’s best to wait until you can actually see it’s safe to pass.
