Des Moines, IA — Leader of the Iowa Labor Union for the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees has been reelected to an 8th term.

Danny Homan is in charge of Council 61 and has been since 2005. Homan was won the weekend vote at the AFSCME convention over the weekend. The labor union represents close to 20,000 employees across the state of Iowa according to Dar Danielson of Radio Iowa.

Homan and the state have had their run in with the AFSCME suing the state back in 2017 over their collective bargaining agreement but ultimately the Iowa Supreme Court ruled in favor of the state. Homan said in his acceptance speech that Council 61 isn’t going anywhere and will continue to fight for all members and families associated with the union.
