Humboldt, IA — A notable action during the Humboldt County Supervisors meeting was the termination of Merri Hansen as the county’s Animal Control Officer.

At the recommendation of the Humboldt Community Animal Shelter Board, the supervisors moved to terminate the contract of Hansen by a unanimous vote. District 2 member Sandy Loney and District 3 member Rick Pederson both said they had made contact with Hansen before their meeting to have her appear before the board to discuss the current issue but Hansen said she has been advised by her lawyer to not attend a meeting of that manner.

Last week, Hansen was relieved of her position as director of the Humboldt Community Animal Shelter by the board in a unanimous vote amid social media posts and an article in the Fort Dodge Messenger. As for the current building, it will continue to be used as a pound per Pederson. However, plans to build a new facility for a shelter have been reported to be moving forward as planned by Community Shelter member Travis Geodken.
