Brandstad’s Attorney Trying To Overturn Verdict

Des Moines, IA — A petition has been made by some attorneys for the state of Iowa is wanting to overturn the verdict on former Iowa governor Terry Brandstad.

Brandstad was recently convicted of wrongful termination of former Workers Compensation Commissioner Christopher Godfrey on the grounds of Godfrey’s sexual orientation. The jury awarded Godfrey $1.5 million in damages in the case.

Branstad was accused of cutting Godrey’s pay after asking him resign in the middle of his term after Godfrey refused to do so. This new petition argues that it was within Brandstad’s power to cut Godfrey’s pay and that there wasn’t enough evidence that Brandstad used Godfrey’s sexual orientation as a basis for the decision.

This petition is going before the judge and is asking for a new trial or to reverse the verdict.
