Humboldt, IA — Governor Kim Reynolds (R), Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg (R), and State Senator Tim Kraayenbrink (R) were in attendance as they were introduced to the Humboldt Recreational Center today.

Leaders in the Humboldt community along with Mayor Dan Scholl, City Administrator Travis Geodken, County Supervisors and City Council Members joined the Governor in talking about small town Iowa and how private/public partnership is important in growing communities.

The 71,000 square foot building was shown to the government officials in attendance and Governor Reynolds says she was beyond impressed with the facility. City Administrator Travis Geodken says that the rec center has done better than expected with memberships as the targeted goal was around 440 but Geodken says that the estimated amount of memberships as of now is close to 1300 with members in all neighboring counties.

Ken and Marilyn Nielsen were honored before the group for their contribution to the facility as the rec center named after the couple in their honor. With the new rec center, Governor Reynolds says that other counties in the state can use this example is Humboldt to show that progress can be made in rural Iowa.

Administrator Geodken says that because of the incredible initial success of the rec center, close 100,000 has already been set aside to keep the facility running at full strength in cleanliness and repairs.
