Des Moines, IA — The Iowa Department on Aging is looking for residents in Humboldt and surrounding counties that are 100 years of age or older.
Angela Van Pelt, a spokesperson for the Iowa Department on Aging, or IDA, says the state is planning to honor the centenarians with various events throughout the state.
Van Pelt says she is aware of the physical limitations that some older Iowans may face. Because of that, most of the events are roughly an hour long. “So people can get in and get out and [go] back home or to the facility where they need to go.” At these events, the centenarians are given a letter signed by the director of the IDA, Linda Miller, and Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.
The IDA says that more than 750 centenarians are registered for events this year. Those in Humboldt are encouraged to contact the department if they are 100 years old or older, or know of anyone that is, regardless of if they want to attend any events.
