Humboldt, IA — The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Humboldt Police Department, are reminding individuals of the dangers of driving impaired.
According to a press release from the Iowa Department of Public Safety, motorists in Iowa can expect to see an increased presence of law enforcement starting December 13th through January 1st; in an effort to remove impaired drivers from the road and help save lives.
The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau, or GTSB, says during the same time period last year, Iowa law enforcement officers arrested more than 500 drivers who were either under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. Also, during that time, there were 17 fatal crashes killed 18 people. Four of these crashes involved an impaired driver.
GTSB says “even if you have a little bit to drink, you could still be over the legal limit,” and “if you feel different, you drive different.” The release says to “celebrate with a plan,” “call a taxi, friend, or Uber” and “don’t wreck the holidays.”
