Wildcat winter sports wrap up

Humboldt, IA – Humboldt winter sports season has come to a close as the calendar turns to March.

Humboldt High School girls basketball finished their season on Feb. 15 in the Regional Tournament. The Wildcats lost their opening round 52-41 at Forest City. The leading scorer with 12.1 points per game for the Wildcats was senior Mady Lange. Junior Kendal Clark led Humboldt in rebounds averaging 8.1 per game. Junior Jori Hajek led the team in assists (3.3 per game) and steals (4.6 per game). Wildcat girls basketball finished with an 11-11 record and was part of the Class 3A Region 2 for the 2019-20 season.

Humboldt High School wrestling finished their season on Feb. 22 at the IHSAA state tournament. Wildcats qualified for the team dual tournament for the first time since 2001 and finished as eight in the state. In the traditional tournament Humboldt had three wrestlers qualify. Senior Cole Nelson finished third in the 106 weight class going 5-1 over the tournament. Freshman Jase Goodell (113) and Colten Goodell (220) both went 1-2 over the tournament and fell just one win short of a podium spot. Humboldt wrestling was in Class 2A for the 2019-20 season.

Humboldt High School boys basketball finished their season on Feb. 24 in the District Tournamant. The Wildcats lost their opening round against Iowa Falls-Alden 82-61. The leading scorer and rebounder for the Wildcats was Junior Sam Fischer averging 13.1 points per game and 9.8 rebounds per game. Senior Jamison Heinz averaged 5.3 assists per game to lead the team. Humboldt finished with a 13-9 record and was part of the Class 3A Substate 2 for the 2019-20 season.

As Humboldt winter sports finish their season the spring sports are right around the corner and will begin in March.
