Humboldt, IA – No injuries reported after a house fire broke out Saturday afternoon in Humboldt on West River Drive.

Humboldt Fire Department Chief Jim Gronbach says that a call was received about 1:35 Saturday afternoon, March 9. He says that the fire originated in the basement of the house and got strong enough to burn through on the first floor.

The Humboldt Fire Department was the first to respond and was aided by the departments of Bode and Gilmore City. Due to the intensity of the fire and winds blowing from the south it took an hour to get the fire under control. The departments were on site for six hours.

All residents of the house were home at the time but managed to get out unharmed. The house and all the possessions inside were lost to the fire. Gronbach says that it is unclear at this time what caused the fire.

The investigation is ongoing and KHBT hopes to report additional details when they are made available.
