Cultivator snaps power lines in Thor

Thor, IA – No injuries reported after a piece of field equipment pulls down a power line and causes a small fire in a ditch.

Chief Deputy Cory Lampe of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Friday, March 17, that John Opheim was using a farm tractor to pull a field cultivator westbound on Dean St. As he passed by City of Thor sewer pond the top of the cultivator struck and overhead power line without Opheim realizing it. This action resulted in the pulling pulling of a power line to the point of ripping down a poll and snapping a power line.

The incident resulted in a ditch fire that was extinguished by the Thor Fire Department. There was no damage done to Opheim’s equipment. No injury was reported to Chief Deputy Lampe at the time of the incident.
