Humboldt, IA – Spring cleaning junk pick up days are scheduled for next Monday and will continue forward as planned unless state authorities instruct otherwise.

The Cities of Humboldt and Dakota City at this time will be going forward with junk pickup days as scheduled for Monday, April 20. Both City Administrators Travis Goedken (Humboldt) and Angelique Berry (Dakota City) say that the plan will be to continue as scheduled until state authorities say otherwise.

Goekden says that the process for junk pickup provides plenty of protection for those involved. “It’s honestly one of the best forms of social distancing our streets department can do” he says. The process involves a few workers in a dump truck with a front end loader. They use a grapple to pick everything up and they haul it off. If someone does have to get out helping load the junk, Goedken assures the public that they will be wearing gloves.

Junk pick up day rules still apply. One load per household with no liquids, tires, hazardous or construction materials allowed. Appliances designated for pickup must have a special sticker purchased from City Hall.
