Dakota City, IA – The county court house is reopening to walk in traffic for some offices and asking residents to be responsible to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The Humboldt County Court House are reopening their doors to the general public once again. On Monday, June 15, the Board of Supervisors for Humboldt County motioned and approved the reopening of the main doors to the county offices in Dakota City. County Auditor Peggy Rice provides a statement to KHBT on the reopening.

The reopening will officially go into effect Tuesday, June 16 at 8 am. Rice says the continued goal of the county officials is to protect the citizens and employees of Humboldt County. The offices will continue to perform all essential services. Those with questions about services or want to make an appointment can contact the desired office directly.

Like with every opening, the court house will have rules and restrictions in place to assure the health of the staff and community. Rice says those showing common COVID-19 symptoms, such as a cough or fever, should stay home. Those who have been exposed should stay in quarantine. Face masks will not be required when in the court house, but are recommended by the county auditor. She also asks that the community adhere to the social distancing rules.

Rice also says the county officials are asking the citizens to do what is referred to as “The 5” to help prevent and reduce the spread of the virus. Wash your hands/nails for 20 seconds. Cough/sneeze into your elbow. Don’t touch your face. Stay more than six feet away from others. Stay home if you feel sick. Rice thanks everyone for doing their part and hopes everyone stays safe.

With the doors reopening offices will be making decisions on how they choose to operate. Some may continue to do by appointment only and others could choose to allow walk in traffic. The bathrooms will continue to remain roped off and social distancing markers and restriction will be in place.
