Humboldt, IA – The seniors at Humboldt High School receiving award recognition, will parade the city, after their graduation ceremony.

The Humboldt High School Class of 2020 will receive additional recognition as part of the graduation ceremony. Each year the senior class has an award ceremony at the end of the year to recognize the students’ accomplishments. However, due to COVID-19, this year’s class did not get the ceremony.

Humboldt High School Principal, Lori Westoff says the class will still get that recognition as part of their graduation program. The award recognition will be at the end of the graduation program. All seniors who won awards and received scholarships will be listed. The information will be distributed virtually as well through social media and online. Seniors will be able to pick up their award certificates following the ceremony.

Directly after the commencement, seniors will parade the neighborhood in cars so the whole community can celebrate their accomplishments. Westoff says it will be one senior per car. The parents will be driving the seniors along a parade route throughout Humboldt and Dakota City. The school is encouraging social distancing for community members while watching the parade. The parade will depart the High School and head down Sumner Avenue up to Dakota City and turn around before cutting through the neighborhood and by Taft Elementary school and end at Bicknell Park. While the senior year for the class of 2020 was unusual Westoff praises the senior for their understanding. She finishes by saying they are definitely a special class. “They’ve been a great class. There’s so much talent in this class” she says.

The graduation ceremony for the class of 2020 will be Sunday, June 21 at Mason Maach Field. Attendance will be limited to parents and step parents only.
