Humboldt Softball beats Algona, wins fifth straight conference title

Humboldt, IA – Humboldt High School Softball tops Algona to clinch their fifth straight conference title.

On Thursday, July 2, the Humboldt Wildcats played host to the Algona Bulldogs. The result was in favor of Humboldt as they took the victory 4-2. It was a scoreless outing until the bottom of the sixth inning when Humboldt’s Short Stop Jori Hajeck would bust it open with a lead off home run. The Wildcats would score four in the bottom of the sixth and give up two in the top of the seventh. The final out would occur with the bases load and Algona threatening to tie or take the lead.

  • Humboldt would intentionally walk Kameryn Etherington four times to avoid sending the .667 batter to the plate.
  • Humboldt’s Pitcher Ellie Jacobson would pitch the full game, giving up six hits and strike out 10 Bulldogs.

The Humboldt High School Softball team is now 13-1 on the season and complete their North Central Conference schedule going 7-0 and winning the conference title. This is the fifth consecutive title for the Wildcats and makes it the first time in program history that a group of seniors have won five titles during their high school careers. The next game for Humboldt will be Friday, July 3 on the road against Clear Lake. First pitch is scheduled for 7:3o pm following the JV game.
