Fatal incident reported in Gilmore City

Gilmore City, IA – A fatal incident has been reported by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office following a motorcycle incident on Sunday.

Deputy Andrew Shillington of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office reports on the single vehicle incident. His report states that on Sunday, Aug. 23, he was dispatched to the scene in Gilmore City. When he arrived Gilmore City EMS First Responders were attending to an unresponsive driver of a motorcycle. The driver was identified as James Cassens, 49, of Algona. Evidence at the scene indicated that the drive had been westbound on Southeast E Avenue in when he missed the railroad crossing and struck the tracks. He was ejected from his motorcycle and landed on the west side of Gilmore City street.

Deputy Shillington reports that EMS transported Cassens to Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
