Humboldt, IA – The Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Foundation Founder’s annual golf outing is coming up at the end of the week.
The annual event is used each year to help raise funds for the local hospital. The event will once again be held at the Humboldt Country Club. Director of the Foundation Mardi Ratzlaff talks about the event with KHBT.
The event coming up is on a new and unusual date for the outing as in the past it is usually held in the earlier part of the summer. Ratzlaff says that the HCMH Foundation is “excited” to have the opportunity to still hold the event this year on the new date, Friday, Aug. 21. She confirms that this is a reschedule after the event was postponed from its original date in June. There was also a lot of uncertainty if the event would even happen this year.
Of course, with the unusual times there will have to be changes made to the event this year according to Ratzlaff. “We’re doing things a little this year” she says. The Foundation is excited about the changes however. The director says that the changes are to help protect the players, volunteers and staff at the country club.
Some changes this year include a 9-hole or 18-hole four person best shout (8 inch cup). Players will also register for tee times and there will be 10 minutes between groups to allow for social distancing on the court. There will also be a putting contest after the last hole and instead of large gathering afterwards the awards will be announced virtually via Facebook live.
Ratzlaff says that this year the proceeds will go to the COVID-19 relief fund at HCMH. This fund is used to purchase valuable personal protective equipment for the staff and workers at HCMH. The hospital has also had to purchase equipment to help support the need at the hospital as well. Ratzlaff says that this is a restrict fund used only to help in the fight against COVID-19.
The HCMH Foundation Founder’s Golf Outing will be Friday, Aug. 21. Those with questions can contact Mardi Ratzlaff at 515-332-7626.
