Humboldt, IA – Humboldt Community Schools and Twin Rivers Schools is allowing all students to get a chance to ease into the school year.
On Monday, Aug. 24 and Tuesday, Aug. 25 Humboldt and Twin Rivers Schools will be holding orientation for high schools and parent-teacher conferences for middle and elementary students. Superintendent of Schools Jim Murray tells KHBT that this is unusual for all students to get this opportunity but the districts believe this is the best options so that all students can have a chance to succeed.
Murray says the schools return to learn committee did agree this was the best option for students to transition back into schools. He says that due to the “abrupt ending” of last school year. There was no transition period for any of the students in Humboldt or Twin Rivers Schools. Both Aug. 24 and 25 have been opened for high school orientation and parent-teacher conference for grades K through 8. Murray says it’s about providing support to families.
The superintendent also says that the two day also about learning more about technological barriers some families might be facing. He says that the district is excited to offer this opportunity to students and families. The hope is that it will be a “good service” to them all. Murray also says they hope to obtain more information regarding a home’s ability to do remote learning.
The high school orientation and K through 8 parent teacher conferences are also about putting everyone’s minds at ease. Murray says that some students are coming from different districts or St. Mary School and that having an orientation can help put their minds as they make the transition. The opportunity for parents of younger students to meet with their teachers is also to help ease their minds that their children will be safe when returning to the class room.
Murray says that for high school they will have an orientation day and that it will be student only. Half the students will come the 24 and the other half the 25. They will learn where their classes are and about the safety measures at the school. For the parent-teacher conferences for grades K through 8 the schools ask that it just be one parent with their student.
The first of classes for all grades K through 12 will be Aug. 26.
